Free admission to cup match if you’re wearing the right jersey
ANYONE wearing either a Shamrock Rovers or Killester Donnycarney jersey, or an Ireland jersey, will get free admission to the women’s cup match in Tallaght Stadium this Saturday at 5.30pm.
Additionally, children from local underage football teams are being invited to attend the Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers women’s match in Tallaght Stadium on Saturday, September 9, free of charge.
Only coaches or parents will have to pay the €10 admission charge to watch the match, and these incentives are being developed by Shamrock Rovers due to the increased popularity of women’s football.
A spokesperson for Shamrock Rovers said: “The squad will be visiting local schools in the build up to [the Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers] match week with complimentary tickets.
“Of course, Ireland senior Internationals, Áine O’Gorman and Abbie Larkin, are in the Hoops’ squad for these games, and it’s a great opportunity for fans to welcome the girls home.”
This follows on from impressive figures released by RTÉ detailing the success of the increased viewership for the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The national broadcaster found that Ireland’s opening match against Australia was the biggest live event of the year on RTÉ Player with 368,000 live streams.
It was also the second-highest live streamed event ever on the platform, and total streams on RTÉ Player exceeded 1.3m across the tournament.
Coverage of the Women’s World Cup on RTÉ television reached 2.4m people, or 53 per cent of the TV population.
Excluding Ireland games, the average share of viewing on TV was 20.7 per cent – more than double the 8.9 per cent average share on RTÉ for the Women’s World Cup in 2019.
