The funeral mass for a young Tallaght man who lost his life in a pool accident in Greece will be held tomorrow in St Anne's Church, Bohernabreena.
Timmy Ajiboye (22), who is a past student of Firhouse Community College and a former juvenile player with St Anne’s GAA Club, drowned in the swimming pool of an apartment complex he was holidaying in with friends on Monday, May 28.
Timmy is remembered as "loving, loyal and caring"
To help Timmy's family bring their loved one home, the young man's friends started a GoFundMe page – with more than €17k raised to help bring Timmy home.
On the GoFundMe page, called Bring Timmy Home, friends wrote: “Our beloved brother Timmy Ajiboye passed away on May 28 while on holiday with a couple of friends.
“This GoFundMe page is to help raise money to support his family with funeral arrangements and to bring his body home so he can get the proper send-off he deserves.”
Tributes to the young man who was studying Computer Science in Coventry University, have been made since his tragic death, with friends and family describing him as “loving, caring and loyal”.
Tributes from the St Anne’s GAA Club community described Timmy, whose family live in MacUilliam, as a “great player, with lots of talent and skill”.
On its Facebook page, St Anne’s wrote: “It’s with deepest regret we offer our condolences to the Ajiboye family on the passing of Timmy a former member and player with St Anne’s GAA.
“Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.”
Outpouring of support
Taking to Twitter to thank people for their support, Timmy’s brother Tommy said: “I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends to complete strangers.
“Raising funds was the furthest thing from my mind when I got the news on Monday, but his friends took the initiative to try to help out, and I’m eternally grateful.
“Thanks to everyone.”
Remembering his younger brother, Tommy said: “. . . your cheeky smile always made me light up, Rest in Peace Timmy, your light is an eternal one.”
