Friends hope Christmas song goes to Number One

LOCAL crooner Damien McElligott and pals have written a Christmas song and hope to get to number one.

“The song is called Christmas in the City. It is sung by myself and Liam Murphy and written by Joseph Coor,” said Damien, a Ballyfermot resident.

“We go under the name Murphy Mc Elligott and we’d love to get a number one with it. Local Irish lads with an original Christmas song that we hope captures people’s imagination.”

In August, McElligott transformed his front garden into an outdoor Mini Live Aid for the Laura Lynn foundation at his home on Colepark Drive.

He got permission from community gardai to close the road and invited up to 20 singers from the local music scene to take par.

This included former X Factor star Mary Byrne, who rocked the street when it was her turn just after 8pm, with many residents joining in throughout the night.

The event was streamed live on McElligott’s Facebook page and received thousands of views and messages of support.
