
Funding boost of €328,000 to improve library services

FUNDING of more than €328,000 is being provided to improve library services in the South Dublin County Council area. The Government funding is to be used for digital services and facilities in local public libraries.
Minister Katherine Zappone says the announcement represents a major boost for a service which offers critical community hubs in local areas.
She added: “The confirmation of the new funding for the South Dublin Libraries is a tribute to the workers who provide this valuable service to people of all ages in our communities.
“While for many of us the local library will always be fondly remembered as the place where we discovered our love of books – the services have expanded significantly to keep pace with digital technology and to offer meeting and event spaces.”
This investment recognises that enhanced role and money can be used to provide a range of upgrades including: iPads/tablets/smart devices for users and for staff to assist users, computers and workstations including image deployment technology, ‘Dementia Tables’ which facilitate play and learning for people with mild to severe dementia as well as those with intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties and autism and other equipment.
