Funding of €210k secured for Multi-Use Games Areas
NEW MULTI-USE Games Areas (MUGA) are set to be installed across South Dublin County with a cost of €210,000, after the council secured funding through an initiative designed to support communities hosting people from foreign countries.
The Community Recognition Fund is a €50m initiative designed to specifically support communities across Ireland that are hosting people from Ukraine and other countries.
Funding has been allocated across all of the local authorities based on the number of new arrivals located there.
South Dublin County Council secured funding through this initiative to fund a MUGA in Sean Walsh Park, Rathcoole Park and in Clondalkin.
The council was allocated €70k for the provision of new half-court MUGAs in each of the three parks, totaling €210k.
MUGAs have been designed to encourage active recreation while also offering informal seating areas for socialising in a safe area.
The MUGA will be an area where children, teenagers, and adults alike can channel their energy, make connections, and engage in healthy activities.
Works are expected to commence in Sean Walsh Park and Clondalkin this week, and Rathcoole Park thereafter.
These works are due to be completed by the beginning of October, at the latest.
South Dublin County Council recently installed a half-court MUGA and associated natural-type seating in Bancroft Park, adjacent to the Tallaght AC headquarters off the Greenhills Road.
The new installations across the county will mimic the design of this half-court MUGA.
