

Further frustration as Ibrahim Halawa case is adjourned again
There is more frustration today after it was announced the trial of Ibrahim Halawa from Firhouse has again been adjourned in Cairo.
Judges said they needed more time to examine the case, and a verdict is now expected in three weeks time on September 18.

Mr Halawa, along with almost 500 others, was arrested in 2013 during a public political protests against the military overthrow of Mohammed Morsi – Egypt’s first democratically elected president.
The trial of Mr Halawa and 493 others has been adjourned more than 30 times so far.
Somaia Halawa, sister of Ibrahim Halawa said: “It is truly upsetting and heart-breaking to constantly keep having our expectations and hopes shattered into a million pieces.
“It is not just Ibrahim’s life that is being played around with but also the entire family’s life. We would ask that our family are allowed some time to ourselves during this difficult period.”
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney tweeted: “Confirmed from Cairo – No verdict today on Ibrahim Halawa case.
“Judges have adjourned until 18 September – v frustrating but we keep working.”
Meanwhile, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone, who is a local TD for Firhouse said: “I share the deep frustration of all at this further delay…Ireland has respected legal process, we expect it to deliver.
“I remain in continuous contact with family, legal team and Government colleagues.”
