Future of Kilmainham Mill is now safely in the care of Dublin City Council
ONE group’s efforts to save Kilmainham Mill, has finally succeeded with the ownership of the Mill passing into Dublin City Council’s hands.
The Mill will be restored and made available to the people of Dublin as a resource and as a reminder of Kilmainham’s nascent industrial heritage.
The members of the Save Kilmainham Mill Campaign are pleased that the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Nial Ring, has given his full support to the group’s effort’s to save Kilmainham Mill whose provenance is established in documents going back to the 1600s when it was still within the grounds of Kilmainham Castle which pre-dated the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, and has served as an icon for the area as well as a place of employment for hundreds of local people over many decades.
The Mill, a relic of Kilmainham's past
In launching the groups’ brochure outlining the history of the Mill and its context Lord Mayor Ring said: “The people of Kilmainham are to be commended for their campaign to save Kilmainham Mill.
“This mill, which has its own historic significance, is also a relic of Kilmainham’s industrial past. Many hundreds were employed there and it turned out products of enormous beauty. Now that it is in Dublin City Council’s ownership it will be an asset not only for the local community but for the city as a whole.”
