A garda told Judge David McHugh that on September 23 last, Brady was involved in an altercation with another man in the County Bar.

He said the gardai had been called and Brady had been put out of the pub and the barman had closed the door.

The garda said that when his colleague arrived he found Brady kicking at the door of the pub attempting to get in.

He said Brady had been intoxicated.

The garda said Brady had 22 previous convictions, including six for public order offences.

Brady’s solicitor, Simon Fleming, put it to the garda that his client was apologetic when he got to the garda station. The garda accepted that this was the case.

Judge McHugh said: “He seems to be a mild and placid man, but a different man when he has drink taken.”

He sentenced Brady to two months jail, suspended for one year.
