Garda injured trying to seize a scrambler
By Maurice Garvey
A GARDA was injured during an attempt to seize a scrambler in a Ballyfermot park.
The incident occurred over the Christmas period in California Hills.
Gardai do not chase scramblers for safety reasons
The Echo understands the garda received an ankle injury, but the scrambler was seized from a male.
It is not the first time gardai have seized scramblers in the troubled park, which has suffered from joyriding, drug-dealing and neglected horses in recent years.
Last year, two plainclothes officers seized a scrambler in the park, but the rider in this case managed to escape on foot.
At a Policing Meeting in Ballyfermot last week, Clondalkin Superintendent James Dalton said: “Unfortunately one of our members got injured trying to seize a scrambler from a male.
The garda was fed up with the increased activity over Christmas.
“It is garda policy not to chase scramblers, for safety reasons. At the moment, An Garda Síochána and Dublin City Council are doing their best to secure the park.”
A garda spokesperson said the garda “received minor injuries and made a full recovery and returned back to work a short time later.”
