Garda investigation underway after five separate arson attacks in Rathcoole overnight

A large Garda investigation is underway today after several arson attacks took place in the Rathcoole area overnight.

A number of vehicles and a shed were set on fire in three separate locations, with one of the attacks taking place at the underground carpark of an apartment block on the Main Street.

It is believed some residents in the Eaton Way apartment complex had to be evacuated for a period of time while firefighters from Tallaght and Dolphin’s Barn fought the blaze.

Another arson attack took place at Rathcoole Park where a van was set alight, while vehicles in the Forest Hills area were also targeted between the hours of 12am-2am.

In a statement released to Echo.ie this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating five incidents of criminal damage by fire (4 vehicles and 1 shed) in the Rathcoole area of Co. Dublin on the 18th August 2017.

“The incidents occurred between the hours of 12 midnight and 2am.

“No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.”
