Gardai investigate beating in Stanaway
By Maurice Garvey
A MAN was hospitalised after suffering a beating in a Crumlin park, directly in front of shocked park users, reports Maurice Garvey.
The incident occurred in Stanaway Park, with many people out playing sports or enjoying the sunshine on Wednesday, July 11, at about 7.30pm.
One witness said: “There was a guy drinking on his own to the side of the park. We’ve seen him here in recent weeks drinking, often shouting obscenities.
"Suddenly, a middle-aged man came running into the park, and just started smacking the other guy in the face. The other guy went down immediately but he kept beating him.
“A number of people went over to try and make him stop. The man said the other guy exposed himself to his grandkids earlier. He then ran out of the park before gardai arrived.”
Gardai and an ambulance arrived at the park, to take the injured man to hospital.
A garda spokesperson said: “We are investigating a report of an assault on a male by another male that occurred on July 11, at approximately 7.30pm on Stanaway Rd.
“The male was treated at St James for his injuries. They are not believed to be serious. Investigations are ongoing. No further information at this stage.”
