Gardai investigating after ram-raid on local shop

GARDAI are investigating an incident of criminal damage at a shop in Woodstown after a ram-raid incident in the early hours of this morning.

On Friday, January 17, a car crashed through the shutter at the front of Spar in the Woodstown shopping centre on the Ballycullen Road.

Entry was not gained to the premises despite “a significant amount of damage” to the entrance of the shop.

In a statement to The Echo, a spokesperson for Spar Ireland confirmed that there was no injuries to staff or customers as a result of the incident.

“Our first priority is the safety of our employees and customers and thankfully no one was hurt as the store was closed at the time of the incident", the spokesperson said.

“As this matter is now under Garda investigation, we are not in a position to comment any further.”

The Echo understands that repair works are currently being carried out, but the store is open for business.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo: “Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage at a retail premises at Woodstown Shopping Centre on the Ballycullen Road, Dublin 16.

“A car crashed into the front of the store but no entry was gained to the premises.

“Gardai were originally notified of incident by an alarm company.

“A significant amount of criminal damage was caused.

“Investigations ongoing.”
