Gardai make 63 arrests as part of international operation

GARDA personnel from stations in Tallaght, Lucan, Ballyfermot and Clondalkin were part of an international operation that took place between April and July.

An Garda Siochana in conjunction with Interpol and law enforcement agencies across 21 countries carried out enforcement activity under Interpol’s Operation Jackal.

The operation, which is called Operation Skein in Ireland, targets transnational organised crime groups suspected of being involved in money laundering and online fraud.

According to a statement issued by An Garda Siochana, Operation Jackal results for Ireland include 63 arrests – 17 people charged and six dealt with under the Juvenile Diversion Programme.

During the searches 11 phones were seized, two cars were seized suspected of having been purchased with stolen/laundered money and €49,000 worth of goods. 

Some €81,133 and $260,953 in cryptocurrency was seized and 17 bank accounts blocked under suspicion of being operated under false names.

These searches were conducted by gardai attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, gardai attached to CAB and personnel from Tallaght, Tralee, Waterford, Portlaoise, Coolock, Blanchardstown, Tipperary, Galway, Lucan, Ballyfermot and Clondalkin.
