Gardai could uncover more disturbing data in Matthew Horan investigation
By Maurice Garvey
GARDAI expect more evidence to come to light from the investigation into paedophile Matthew Horan.
Horan (26), was jailed for seven and a half years last week after thousands of child-porn images were recovered, as well as evidence of Horan coercing girls as young as nine to send him sexually graphic images.
Clondalkin gardai have been carrying out an extensive forensic investigation, and could yet uncover more disturbing data, according to a senior source.
Detectives first raided Horan’s home in 2014, and the sex offender was arrested three times – twice while on bail – over a two year period.
Despite awaiting charges, Horan continued to coerce young girls to send him graphic images for almost two years.
Meanwhile, a resident living on the same St John’s Crescent road as Matthew Horan, rang RTE’s Liveline on Monday, appealing for calm after the sex offender’s front door and windows were targeted by vandals last week.
Nobody is understood to have been in the home at the time of the incident, or staying there at the moment.
According to court reports, the death of his mother who passed away when he was three, left his father adrift.
John Horan (no relation to Matthew Horan), told Liveline that three Horan families live on the same St John’s Crescent road as Matthew Horan.
“We have the same surname that is all. None of the three families are related, and there is another two or three families in Cherrywood,” said John Horan.
When asked by Joe Duffy if he feared repercussions, John Horan said “the thought had passed my wife’s mind and my own.”
“We have a son who is two years older than Matthew Horan. There are people who are not from the estate. If you put the name in the phone book or Google, we’ve had the Sunday Independent and another paper to the door. Bad enough that they would make the mistake but if anyone else did.”
John Horan urged people not to “visit the sins of a son on the family.”
“I can understand people would like to have a face to face with Matthew Horan, but not with his family.”
Asked if Matthew Horan was known around the estate, John Horan said Matthew seemed very quiet on the few occasions he saw him “always eyes down.”
