Gardai notified of badger baiting in Tymon Park

GARDAÍ have been notified of an incident of badger baiting in Tymon Park in recent weeks, according to South Dublin County Council.

A park ranger came across the illegal activity, which is a form of bloodsport where badgers are baited by dogs, as it was occurring.

At a Tallaght Area Committee meeting this week, the council stated: “The gardaí attended the scene however it is reported that the group had dispersed before the gardaí arrived.

“The ranger in question who was assisted by a colleague in dealing with the matter was instrumental in dispersing this group and bringing an end to the activity on this occasion.

“The Public Realm Section will consider the matter further to determine what measures are required should a repeat occurrence take place.”

The local authority stated this in response to a question by independent councillor Mick Duff about badger baiting in Tymon Park.
