Glenanne men in Celtic Cup success
GLENANNE club players Eddie O’Malley and David Williamson recently helped the Ireland Over 60s regain the Celtic Cup from last year’s champions Scotland in this season’s tournament at Garryduff in Cork.
The former was on target for the team in their 3-1 victory over Wales which was followed up with a 7-0 demolition of France.
It left them facing the holders in what was effectively a title decider, and they managed to battle out a 1-0 victory, Billy Pollock hitting the decisive score that bridged a two-year gap since they last raise the prize.
Meanwhile the Ireland Over 65s just missed out on their respective title after they were beaten 1-0 by eventual winners Wales in their closing match of the tournament.
The team, which included Stuart Switzer of Three Rock and Glenanne’s John Keppel, made a blistering start to their campaign, steamrolling France 8-2.
Keppel, himself, fired home a brace in that match while Switzer was also on target.
Following that, they saw off Scotland 2-1 thanks to goals from Maurice Martin and Raymond Parker, only to be pipped by the Welsh.
