Go-ahead for social housing

A BLOCK of 45 apartments located in Springfield that have taken almost 10 years to complete are to be made available as social housing and used to accommodate the growing number of families on South Dublin County Council’s housing list.Apartments at St Marks pitches 1
The Echo understands that the apartments, – located on Cookstown Road to the north of the Fortunestown Shopping Centre and beside playing pitches used by St Mark’s GAA Club – are set to be signed over to the council by the end of the year.
A question was submitted by Cllr Charlie O’Connor at the recent meeting of the Tallaght Area Committee. He asked if there is any action open to the council under the derelict sites act to take enforcement action on the site.
The council confirmed that works to complete the development are currently taking place on the site, with the first block of 23 units set to be completed by the third quarter of 2015 and the second block of 22 units to be completed by the end of the year.
