
Goahead Ireland seeking to extend its existing bus depot in Ballymount
GO AHEAD is seeking to extend its existing bus depot in Ballymount to provide in excess of 200 new bus parking spaces, writes Hayden Moore.
South Dublin County Council has received a planning application from Go Ahead Ireland in relation to its depot at 12 Ballymount Road Lower.
The applicant is proposing the extension of its bus parking facilities comprising of a total of 221 bus spaces, which includes 45 electric bus parking spaces.
33 car parking spaces, 15 of which are electric car parking spaces, five motorcycle and 30 bicycle parking spaces are also included in the plans which were lodged on August 3.
The planning authority is also considering revisions to the layout and configuration of the existing bus and car parking spaces along with the installation of electric vehicle charging units.
A barrier and ramp at a new vehicular entrance located on Ballymount Avenue and four pedestrian entrances on the south-eastern, south-western, and north-eastern site boundaries are included in proposals.
There is also provision of “minor elevational amendments” to the existing transport depot building, which include the relocation and addition of roller shutter doors and signage.
Boundary treatments, hard and soft landscaping works, changes in level, lighting, surface water drainage, piped infrastructure and ducting and the associated site excavation and development works above and below ground make up the remainder of the plans.
As a footnote in the proposed development description, the applicant has included that the development “will also include the underground diversion of the existing ESB power line” that runs along the south-eastern corner of the site.
The closing date for third party submissions relating to this proposed development is September 9, with a decision due from the local planning authority on September 27, 2021.
