Good deed rewarded for gran who won €50k scratch card prize

THE National Lottery has today shared the story of a kind-hearted Dublin grandmother who won a €50K scratch card prize after showing compassion to a homeless man in the capital.

The grandmother, who is keeping her win private, bought the winning All Cash Extravaganza scratch card at the Londis store in Fonthill Retail Park in Clondalkin.

“I was meeting my friend for a coffee and while I was waiting, I started talking to a man who had obviously come upon hard time”, the grandmother said.

“I gave him just a small amount of money which he was going to use to get some shelter for the night.

“He was incredibly grateful and he promised me that my act of kindness would be rightly rewarded in time and he told me that my next National lottery purchase would be a lucky one.”

After speaking with the man, the Dublin grandmother decided to try her luck and bought a scratch card in the nearest shop.

“I had a €20 win to collect on a previous scratch card so instead of taking the cash I decided to buy a €20 scratch card which I would never have had considered before”, she said.

“When I finally met my friend for coffee, we started scratching it together at the table and we just couldn’t believe it as the €50,000 symbol appeared before our eyes.

“We thought there was a mistake until we called the National Lottery.

“It has been a very emotional day and it’s a lot to take in but we’re going to enjoy it. I haven’t even had time to process the win let alone think about what I’m going to do with the money,” she said.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games go back into causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, community, arts, heritage and the Irish language.
