Grass painted blue ahead of Dubs decider

THE grass at Lealand Estate in Clondalkin was painted blue this week in support of the Dublin GAA team, who will compete against Kerry again in Croke Park this weekend in the All-Ireland final replay, following a draw between the two teams earlier this month.
Local residents agreed to the grass being painted in advance of the match to show the community’s support for the boys in blue, with residents’ association members Natasha McClelland, Val Kelly, Barbara Kelly and Frances Kinsella coming together to create the display.

Ms McClelland, who is the chair of the Lealand Residents’ Association, told The Echo: “We asked the residents if they liked the idea [of painting the grass] and a lot of people thought it was a really fun, good idea.
“People have been stopping at it and taking photos, and people have been posting about it on social media as well.”
She said that they ultimately decided to go with ‘Up The Dubs’ instead of referring to the Dubs’ potential for securing a five-in-row victory, just in case it “jinxed” the team’s success.
Ms Clelland added: “We’ve left a space in the grass to congratulate them if they win.”
