Grave of 12-year-old Kyle is smashed and set alight
THE grave of a young boy who died of an asthma attack in 2018 was smashed and set alight in Bohernabreena Cemetery last week.
The incident occurred last Thursday evening, May 25, which saw floral tributes being burnt and the gravestone being smashed at 12-year-old Kyle Finnegan’s grave.
In a statement issued last week, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí received a report of an incident of criminal damage that occurred in the Bohernabreena area of Tallaght, Co Dublin at approximately 7pm, Thursday, May 25, 2023.
“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.”
The Echo contacted the Garda press office on Wednesday morning to see if there was an update, and the same statement that was issued last week was sent to this paper.
Kyle, who was a talented footballer and a committed Shamrock Rovers fan, passed away after suffering an asthma attack in September 2018.

The young boy had asthma since he was four-years-old, and even though an inhaler was used he sadly succumbed to the asthma attack.
After his death, celebrities including Bugzy Malone, Steven Gerrard and Tyson Fury paid tribute to him on social media.
A minute’s silence was held at football matches around the county in memory of Kyle, and his passing was the subject of 2021 documentary called ‘Starboy’, by Fettercairn filmmaker Dean Kavanagh.
