Growing concerns over housing plans
Dublin City Council is to advertise for expressions of interest in the construction of almost 1,500 houses at five council-owned sites - including the potential for 400 homes in Cherry Orchard and 30 elderly units at Corna Mona Court in Ballyfermot.
The homes are to be a mix of social housing and private housing for rent. The 8.2 hectare Cherry Orchard site is situated on vacant land behind Cherry Orchard Hospital, which the council purchased off the HSE.
A report of the council owned lands at Monday’s monthly council meeting, featured fierce opposition by members to proposed amendments to the plans by Sinn Féin and People Before Profit.
