A LOCAL gym is running an ‘operation transformation’ programme over Zoom in hopes to transform the health of three chosen people.

Owner of Ci-Fi Studio in Clondalkin, Ciara Murray (33) from Palmerstown, decided to put out a search for three people looking to change their lives and overall health as part of an operation transformation programme.

“I was looking for something to keep me busy, and also be able to give back to people. I put out a post to get people to apply and had over 40 applicants. I chose three people because their stories really touched me”, Ciara told The Echo.

The programme is in its third week now, running for a total of eight weeks, and the results have been astounding so far.

“They have lost 19 and a half pounds between them in 2 weeks. That is the weight of 73 bananas when you think about it like that. They are all flying it”, said Ciara.

The members partake in three workouts a week with Ciara over Zoom, using equipment she has provided them with from her gym.

“I tailor the workouts to the members. It is low impact workouts, and they can use the equipment such as dumbells from the gym. On the days we don’t have workout sessions I set little challenges for them such as getting 8k in for a walk, or if you can’t go for a walk go up and down the stairs.” Ciara explained.

Alongside the three Zoom workouts a week, Ciara encourages a healthy balanced diet as part of the programme.

“It’s about changing people’s mindset when it comes to food and asking what is the nutritional value of this food that I am eating?

“All of the members are great, they are all willing to try new food.  Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring.” Ciara explained.

One of Ciara’s operation transformation participants is Chris O’Dwyer – Local Area Representative for the Labour Party in Clondalkin.

Speaking about his experience and progress so far in the programme, Chris told The Echo, “So far the program has been going very well, I am currently working on the frontline and Ciara has been very flexible with regards to the times of the workouts.

“I have tried many times to tackle my weight, when I started the programme I weighed 22 stone and 9lbs two weeks in I am now down to 22 stone.

“The plan is to get to 20 stone by the end of the eight weeks and then continue to work with Ciara to get down to my overall goal of 15 stone.”

Chris explained the impact that Covid has had on his overall health,

“A lot of my work has moved online and I am not getting out on the doors to deal with issues raised by residents but being part of Ciara’s operation transformation program has increased my activity and has been a huge support to my mental health.

“I decided to apply for the programme because I am very conscious of the fact that I am nearly 30 and if I don’t get a handle on my health and fitness now it will be a struggle in later life.”
