A LOCAL drama group is gearing up for their performance of a two person play about a middle-aged couple who are bored with their lives and use their fantasies as a means of escapism.

The Rathfarnham Theatre Group, which was founded in 1991 and now has approximately 40 members, will be bringing their performance of ‘The Secret Lives of Henry and Alice’ to The Mill Theatre in Dundrum, with Eddie Quinn and Ellen O’Brien in the starring roles of Henry and Alice.

The play, which is an adult comedy, was written by David Tristram and sees the lines between fantasy and reality become blurred, where only the audience and the couple’s ever-present pet goldfish, Orca, will know the true story of what has happened.

Maria Burke King from the Rathfarnham Theatre Group told The Echo: “There will be two people taking on the roles so it’s quite different.

“It will be very interesting, very entertaining and enjoyable to watch.

“It’s a challenge for the two actors as they’ll be taking on 15 different characters each, but the rehearsals have been going pretty well.”

Maria added: “Timing is really important in the play so right now we’re working on the pace of it.

“It’s something different, and the audience will 100 per cent enjoy it.”

‘The Secret Lives of Henry and Alice’ will be performed in the Mill Theatre’s Maureen O’Hara Studio on Thursday, April 5; Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at 8pm each night.

Tickets are €12, or €10 concession, and can be booked online through www.milltheatre.ie or by calling 01 296 9340.
