‘Her Moves’ set to engage teenage girls in sport
PUPILS from Coláiste Bríde in Clondalkin are featured in a new national campaign to encourage teenage girls to stay physically active and participate in sports.
Called ‘Her Moves’, the campaign by Sport Ireland seeks to engage inactive teenage girls or those at risk of dropping out of sports clubs.
The ethos of the campaign is reframing what sport is, opening the girls’ eyes to more opportunities, and encouraging girls to embrace sport and physical activity.
Coláiste Bríde pupils Leah Domican, Kayla Gaffney, Sophie Doherty and Kaleigh O’Sullivan all star in the campaign and recently went to see their ad in person in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.
Carol O’Donnell, a teacher in Coláiste Bríde, said: “Promoting physical activity in all aspects of school life is part of our culture at Coláiste Bríde so it was such a great fit for our school to get involved with ‘Her Moves’.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for some of our girls to take part in the promotional campaign.
“They had so much fun trying out new forms of activity and remembering why being active is so important to them.
“We are very proud of the girls and the message they are helping to share.”
The initiative is influenced by research undertaken by Sport Ireland, which found that 100 per cent of teenage girls agreed with the statement ‘I feel better when I move’.
However, they found the stark reality that only seven per cent of teenage girls aged 14 to 15 met the recommended guidelines for physical activity.
Leading with ‘Find Something That Moves You’, the campaign posits the idea that there truly is something out there for every girl, supporting them to embrace sport and physical activity in their lives and to find something that moves them.
