Horse saved from canal recovering from injuries
By Maurice Garvey
A HORSE rescued from the canal near Park West Industrial Park this week by authorities is recovering from her injuries at the DSPCA stables in Rathfarnham.
Staff at the DSPCA christened the neglected equine ‘Molly’ and have reported that her condition has much improved over the last few days.
Last week, units from Dublin Fire Brigade and a special Swiftwater Rescue Team (SRT) rescued the distressed horse from the canal at Killeen Road near Park West.
Three units from DFB responded to an emergency call early in the morning, which stated a horse was struggling in the water of the canal.
The units and an SRT (river rescue) team worked together to remove the vulnerable horse from the canal with assistance from the DSPCA, who were involved in the rescue operation.
A vet then attended the scene to treat the horse for her injuries, which included a nasty-looking gash on a front leg.
DSPCA staff told The Echo that Molly is in much better form over the last few days, and enjoying a new lease of life at the charity’s stables on Mount Venus Road.
