Hospital set to stage 15 free public health talks

A SERIES of 15 free public health talks will be staged by Tallaght University Hospital within local communities over the coming months.
The hospital has launched its schedule for its autumn/winter public health education series, an initiative run in partnership with the Patient Community Advisory Council (PCAC).
The initiative originially launched in January 2017, with six events taking place.
However, this year, more than double the number of events are planned.
Free to attend and open to all members of the public, health talks this year cover topics including stroke, dementia, women’s health and chronic lung conditions.
Catherine Heaney, Chairperson of the PCAC and Fettercairn Community Health Project Co-Ordinator said: “The Public Health Talks series has been a huge success since it was launched in 2017.
“It is hugely beneficial to the local community that we have been able to put the Autumn/Winter schedule together based on feedback from those who have attended the talks from the very start.
“We are looking forward to welcoming members of the community to a growing number of community locations over the next few months.”
Eight of the talks are scheduled between now and November, with talks on Making Stroke History, Are you Winter Ready and Cholesterol taking place in the Fettercairn Community Centre during the Tallaght Health Fair on September 11.
Talks on Dementia (Kilnamanagh FRC), Women’s Health (An Cosan), Arthritis (Firhouse Community Centre), Let’s talk Clots (Rua Red) and COPD (Rua Red) are also planned between September and November 15.
Dr Catherine Wall, Clinical Lead at Tallaght University Hospital, said: “The ethos of People Caring for People is at the heart of everything we do in the hospital.
“It is a real testament to the commitment from supportive clinicians and health care professionals that there has been such an increase in the number of talks this year and in those attending the talks.”
