In pictures: DFB tackle gorse fires in the Dublin Mountains

DUBLIN Fire Brigade battled mass gorse wildfires in the Dublin Mountains yesterday as temperatures rose as high as 16 degrees. 

DFB today confirmed to The Echo that firefighters left the scene in the early hours of this morning, after a day of crews fighting dry vegetation fires.

 With the abnormally high February temperatures hitting 16 degrees, the dry vegetation just off the Old Military Road, above the View Point, in the Dublin Mountains caught fire.

 Three fire engines attended the scene yesterday, with reports that the wildfire could be seen as far as 10km away.

Fire from the Cheeverstown Road

At dusk, however, the gorse caught fire again with a resident capturing this picture just off the Cheeverstown Road in Tallaght.

Last night, additional crews arrived on the scene and fought the flames for around four hours, with four fire engines from Tallaght, Dolphin’s Barn and Rathfarnham attending.

According to DFB, no injuries or property damage were reported following the wildfire.
