In Plain Sight – first in a trilogy by Joseph Birchall
“There are a few twists and surprises I’d love to keep under wraps for readers.”
Glenview author Joseph Birchall smiles, not wanting to give anything away.
This is regarding his novel ‘In Plain Sight’, the first in a planned trilogy of books focusing on two detectives in Dublin, Darcy Doyle and Mike Kelly, as a case forces Darcy to confront her past.
Joseph was “especially thrilled” when Patricia Gibney recommended the book and told Poolbeg she hadn’t seen one of the major twists coming.
To summarise the book, there is a serial killer loose on the streets of Dublin, and the reader is left guessing their identity right up until the final pages.
While there is a continuing arc across the three books, Joseph reassures that he has tried to make each book a standalone novel with its own complete story.
“You don’t have to read the first one to jump straight into the second.”
Each book focuses on a different case, while Darcy Doyle and Mike Kelly continue to wrestle with their own personal demons. If the first three are a success, Joseph is hoping that Poolbeg will request a fourth book.
He references writers such as Liz Nugent, Jo Spain, and Tana French as inspirations for this trilo-gy.
He will be attending a launch night for ‘In Plain Sight’ in Rua Red on June 12 at 7:15 p.m., where he will be joined on stage by local poet and historian Mervyn Ennis as they discuss the book.
