InClondalkin Festival sees over 8,000 joining in the fun

THOUSANDS of people got involved in the festivities at this year’s InClondalkin Festival, which saw the village play host to a variety of performers, including musicians and street performers, and a series of events that spanned the interests of the community.
The Áras Chrónáin Irish Cultural Centre held a number of events for Clondalkin’s thriving Irish-speaking community during the weekend-long festival, while free history walks were held by The Round Tower Heritage Group to give people an opportunity to discover Clondalkin’s storied past.

Thyes Kavanagh, the festival director, told The Echo: “It was fabulous, the sun was shining and [events for] families were well covered.
“One major highlight was having a number of young guards at the festival who were getting involved with the festival and were very friendly.
“There was great friendliness from the guards and the volunteers.
“There was also a performance by a dance group called Funky Steps, there were about 40 little kids involved, and they certainly stole the hearts of the people at the festival.”
Over 8,000 people attended the weekend long festival, which is now in its eighth year, and had fun for all the family and children of all ages.
Thyes also wanted to extend his thanks to Brian McElroy Funeral Directors who sponsored the live stage at this year’s festival, describing them as being “rooted in the community”.
It was also an exciting weekend for The Happy Pear Café, who celebrated their one-year anniversary on Sunday, July 1, with a collection of free events, including yoga classes and children’s activities, while the Happy Pear twins, David and Stephen Flynn, cut a birthday cake to celebrate the day.
