THE CIVIC Theatre will play host to a weekend-long international urban dance festival this weekend, which will culminate in dance battles where €1,000 in cash prizes can be netted by the best dancers.

Seasoned urban dancer Matt Szczerek, who performed as the principal dancer in CoisCéim Dance Theatre’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and is a professional member of Dance Ireland, will be at the helm of the Dance2Connect Festival.

Dance theatre, dance battles, social dances and workshops in different styles of dancing like hip-hop, popping, krump and breakdancing will be a feature of the festival.

The workshops will be delivered by a variety of talented international dancers, such as the Ukrainian breakdancer B Boy Sapa, French krump dancer Kid NY and Manchester-based DJ KhanFu.

The festival offers the opportunity for the dance community to learn the intricacies of dancing through Dance2Connect’s workshops, performances and exchanges.

The first night of the festival, Friday, February 9, will feature an urban dance theatre performance, which will be followed by an improv show which will be open to all.

The second day of the festival, Saturday, February 10, will be primarily focused on workshops until a party/jam session at 9pm that evening.

The last day of the festival, Sunday, February 11, will wrap things up with dance battles where you can show off all your best dance moves in the hopes of winning a cash prize.

You can purchase a bundle deal where you can attend all of the festival’s events for €70, or alternatively a ticket for theatre night is €10, attendance for one workshop will be €20, two for €35 or all four for €50.
