International Women’s Day: Series of insightful events will mark day

A  series of interesting and insightful events, hosted by South Dublin Libraries, will take place via Zoom and Facebook this weekend and next week to mark International Women’s Day 2021.

Lucan Library events via Zoom include a bioengineering workshop by Anyone 4 Science on Saturday, March 6, at 2pm. Acclaimed crime writer Louise Philips will give a talk on Monday, March 8 at 7pm, about how growing up in South Dublin County has inspired her work.

Clondalkin Library’s Zoom event will be a webinar featuring Catherine O'Keeffe, ‘the Wellness Warrior’, talking about the symptoms of menopause and what to expect from this change in life. Tickets can be booked at clondalkinlibrary.eventbrite.com.

Tallaght Library will be kicking off their Zoom events for International Women’s Day with Circus 250 – Strong Women in Science Circus Show Online on Monday, March 8, at 2pm, featuring engineer Aoife Raleigh and environmental scientist Maria Corcoran as scientists-turned-circus-performers.

A talk will also be held by Cecilia Hartsell on Monday, March 8, titled ‘Modern Women in Modern Times: Women and Social Norms in American Cities, 1900-1930′, at 7pm, while on Tuesday, March 9, at 7pm, a panel discussion titled ‘Women and Creativity – Staying Focused in a Time of Covid’ will be broadcast.

Ballyroan Library will hold a virtual scavenger hunt, and all questions will be about fearless women in history, from army generals and fighter pilots to wrestling princesses and Celtic warriors.

It’s suitable for ages ten and up, and a small prize is up for grabs. Advanced booking isn’t required, and the event will be held on the Ballyroan Library Facebook page.

North Clondalkin Library events include a comic workshop with Fiona Dowling on Saturday, March 6 at 2pm, and free tickets can be booked at North Clondalkin Library.

On Monday, March 8 at 8pm, storyteller Nuala Hayes and artist Rita Duffy will present ‘From Mythology to Reality – Stories of 4 Inspirational Irish Women’, and no booking is necessary – the event will be hosted on the NCL North Clondalkin Library Facebook page.
