ISPCC Childline, a 24-hour listening service for children, is currently recruiting volunteers in Dublin.

Those considering becoming a volunteer can attend an information evening at the ISPCC Dublin offices located on 30 Baggot Street Lower on Tuesday 16 and Thursday 18 of January at 6.30pm.

Each year the Childline’s phone line, live text and webchat receives over 400,000 calls from children seeking help for a variety of reasons.

The Childline service, staffed by a team of volunteers and staff members, is free, anonymous and confidential.

Potential volunteers do not need any prior qualifications, however, they will receive comprehensive, ongoing training and support before they take their first call and throughout their time as a Childline volunteer.

As part of the process, Childline volunteers complete weekly four-hour shifts and help with its 24-hour phone line, live text and webchat services, with references being available upon completion of commitment.

Dublin Regional Childline Supervisor, Emma McCluskey, said: “The Childline training is a comprehensive training course that equips volunteers with the skills to deliver a quality service to children.

“All Childline volunteers are trained in active listening skills and child-centered practice.”
