It looks like the Cuckoo’s Nest has finally been sold

After several months on the market, it appears the Cuckoo’s Nest has finally been sold, with signage indicating as much today at the premises on the Greenhills Road.

Those passing by on a daily basis will be very familiar with the ‘for sale’ signs, and eagle-eyed members of the public quickly spotted the change in situation.

Following the closure of the much-loved local in May 2015, a significant planning application for the development of a 45-unit residential estate on land to the rear of the pub was lodged with South Dublin County Council.

For several months the council sought additional information and clarification on a number of items contained in the planning application, a lengthy process which left locals wondering if the Lynch’s would ever get home to roost in the family pub.

However, in January of this year county planners granted permission for the development to proceed – with detailed plans showing the new houses and apartments.

The application also includes plans to renovate the pub itself and seeks to level the existing rear and side extensions, which will be replaced with a new two-storey wing that will house a bar, lounge, external courtyard with seating at ground level and a restaurant and kitchen on the first floor.

The Lynch family, who have owned the pub since 1962, put it on the market in March of this year, with a guide price of €4 million.

We’ll have more on this story in next week’s Echo, on sale in shops and online every Thursday.
