Jobstown lads come to rescue of 4×4 Garda jeep

By Mary Dennehy

THIS Garda jeep was on the road all weekend responding to calls from the community thanks to these local lads who came to the rescue when the 4x4 got stuck in Jobstown.

Divisional Traffic Sergeant Ciaran Murphy, who is based in Terenure, was bringing two Tallaght officers to a call on Saturday morning when the jeep got stuck in snow beside the Applegreen garage in Jobstown.

After realising that the 4x4 was going nowhere, the two officers left on foot to respond to the call while Sgt Murphy remained at the scene – unsuccessfully managing to free the vehicle.

However,  these lads soon turned up and after digging the snow from around the wheels, pushed the jeep free.

“What these lads done was invaluable,” Sgt Murphy said.

“I was trying to get the jeep out myself but it wasn’t happening.

Pushed me out

“These four lads arrived on the scene and used two shovels I had in the back of the jeep to get rid of the snow and then pushed me out.”

He said: “If they didn’t help me, I would have had to wait for the council to arrive to help.

“This jeep was one of two jeeps in the area that was bringing officers to calls and if the lads hadn’t spotted me stuck and came to help, the jeep would have been out of action.

“However, I was able to keep going all day, all weekend, responding to calls from the community.

“Their help was invaluable and I’d like to say a big thanks to them.”

Community gardai at Tallaght Garda Station also expressed their gratitude for their assistance.
