A CREW of young street dancers from Jobstown have successfully strutted their way to the World Street Dance Championships in Glasgow, and will represent their hometown and country on the international stage this summer.

Students from LD Dance School competed against hundreds of dancers from right across Ireland for a place in the ‘Worlds’, and for the chance to compete as Team Ireland in the coveted competition.

After months of commitment, determination and creativity, an under-18 dance crew from LD Dance called Limitless has made it onto Team Ireland, alongside six solo dancers and two duo teams from the local street dance school.

Running for the past six years, LD Dance School is led by Lisa Daly, who is also a teacher in St Thomas’s senior national school in Jobstown.

Lisa told The Echo: “All of the kids are ecstatic, it’s an outstanding achievement for any dancer to represent their country . . . and they have put Jobstown on the map.

“All of the dancers are from in and around the Jobstown area and have put a huge amount of effort and dedication into getting to where they are now.

“They’ve worked so hard to get here and are really honoured to represent their hometown and their country at such a high level.

“I really think this is a cause for celebration and recognition.”

With schools in Tallaght and Clondalkin, LD Dance School, which teaches a mixture of different styles of hip hop and formation, has also qualified for the Six Nations [England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, France and Germany] Street Dance Championships.

The dancers will compete both in the World Street Dance Championship and the Six Nations in the late summer.
