Joy for Danielle’s family with news of new home

A YOUNG mother has secured a new house through the HAP scheme, after an estate agent saw a video of her on Echo.ie describing her fear of being made homeless after being served a notice to quit by her previous landlord.
Jobstown woman Danielle Mahony (29) spoke to The Echo three weeks ago at a housing protest outside South Dublin County Council’s offices in Tallaght, in a video that has now been viewed over 40,000 times.

In the video, the mother-of-three explained that she was fearful of herself and her children becoming homeless after she had been informed by her landlord that she would have to leave the house that she had been renting in De Selby, as the landlord stated that his brother was planning to move into the property.
Ms Mahony has been on South Dublin County Council’s housing list for the past nine years, and she voiced her frustrations about the housing crisis during the protest, saying that the council should “build more houses and get people out of this situation, especially people that have been waiting this long on the housing list.”
Estate agents Murphy Mullan contacted Ms Mahony shortly after the video went online and helped her to find a house, and she is now preparing to move into a house, which is located a short distance away from where she previously lived.
Expressing her relief at securing a new house, Ms Mahony said: “It’s great, so much stress is gone now.
“It’s great to know that we’ll have a roof over our heads.”
When asked about what impact getting the new house has had on her children, who are aged two-, three- and nine-years-old, Ms Mahony said: “They’re delighted, they’re over the moon, especially since it’s only around the corner from our old house, so they can stay in the same school and see all of their friends.
“I’m delighted.”
