Joy for Peamount U12s

THERE was joy for Peamount United’s U12 girls’ team on Saturday after they secured the National Cup title. The Newcastle side made sure of the title when they brushed aside the challenge of Ballyoulster United 3-1 in Jackman Park in a well-contested decider.

And it did not look that good on in the early stages when Ballyoulster broke the deadlock with the opening goal of the match.

However, Peamount soon found their feet and they were back on level terms five minutes later when Robin Denehan saw her effort rebound off the cross bar and the ball deflect off a defender and ended up in the net.

Peamount quickly got to grips with the match and Player of the Match Aine Marrinan posed problems throughout this encounter for Ballyoulster.

Peas did create chances before the interval but could not convert this into scores as the teams went in deadlocked at the interval 1-1.

On the changeover, both sides tested the goalkeepers looking for a second goal and it did eventually arrive with 15 minutes on the clock in favour of Peamount.

A good pass from Orlaith Tougher sent Sienna Jones on her way and she made no mistake to push the Newcastle side in front.

With the game hanging in the balance, both sides did create chances, but it was Peamount who scored the all-important third goal through Robin Denehan to put the contest out of reach.

“It’s a brilliant achievement from the girls considering it’s only the teams second season together,” said Peamount United manager Ken Tougher.

“It’s the one we wanted to win.

”It’s a massive achievement to win a national title.

“We are now going for the treble which is great for everyone involved,” added Ken.

Peamount are in the League Cup final this Sunday against Leixlip and are on top in the DDSL Division One league race.
