Jude’s Inters into last eight of championship

ST JUDE'S intermediate footballers progressed to the quarter-final of the championship following a well-deserve 4-18 to 2-7 win over Lucan Sarsfields in Tymon Park last Saturday.

A strong second half performance in which Jude's scored 1-10 without response saw the home side set up a quarter-final clash with Kilmacud Crokes next week.

St Judes v Lucan Sarsfields

The opening half of this contest saw Sarsfields start brightly with Donnie Smith firing over a point before Brian Creed broke through to volley home a goal.

The Sarsfields defence was solid in the opening stages, keeping Jude's at bay,  Brendan O'Shaughnessy pulling off a number of defensive blocks.

However, Jude’s hit the turbo button before the interval with Cillian Barden and David Walsh from right half back finding the back of the Sarsfields net.

With Richie English and Darragh Kavanagh impressing, the home side pushed forward and established a 2-6 to 1-5 lead before the interval.

The second half saw Jude’s turn on the style with Darren Gallagher kicking four points in a row while Brendan Lynskey and Paddy O’Loughlin chipped in with scores to see them pull away.

Substitutses O’Loughlin and Aidan Blake came off the bench to chip in with goals as the home side piled on the pressure.

Sarsfields did pull a goal back through Andy Hope and, while Kevin McBride and Dave Herlihy landed scores, the game was effectively over at this stage.

Jude’s will now be turning their attention to the challenge of a  Crokes side whom they beat in the semi-finals of the competition last year.
