Jude’s battle back to book a semi-final place
ST JUDE’S senior footballers have set up a semi-final meeting with Ballyboden St Enda’s in the championship following their thrilling 2-11 to 2-10 victory over Cuala in Parnell Park at the weekend.
The game hung right in the balance throughout the second half with Dublin player Tom Lahiff scoring a vital goal after 48 minutes of play.
Con and Niall O’Callaghan proved a handful for Jude’s, but the Templeogue side maintained the edge in the second half with substitute Alan Connolly and Darragh Rooney slotting over points to see them past the finish line.
Cuala got off to a fine start after 11 minutes of play when Con O’Callaghan broke through for a goal to put his side six points clear.
However, a Darragh Rooney goal on 17 minutes pulled Jude’s right back into contention to leave just two between the sides.
Rooney impressed for the winners with a goal and seven points to his credit as he tormented the Cuala defence throughout.
Niall O’Callaghan scored a fine goal three minutes after the resumption to build on Cuala’s two-point advantage.
But Rooney kept Jude’s in the contest with a couple of points and then when Lahiff got through for a goal, the Templeogue side showed all of their experience to stay in front.
