July 2017 Echo Sports Star of the Month – Rhasidat Adeleke
JULY proved an amazing month for Tallaght AC athlete Rhasidat Adeleke.
Having been hauling in the honours in club and schools sprint athletics all year, Adeleke continued her winning ways when storming to the Under 16 100m title at the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore with a new championship best performance of 11.98 seconds.
Yet it got even better for her later in the month when she captured silver in the 200m at the European Youth Olympics, in Gyor, Hungary.
Her time of 23.81 is the fastest time the Tallaght teenager has ever run, but unfortunately, due to the wind speed on the day being outside the legal limit, her personal best time does not officially stand.
Underscoring her potential, Adeleke’s coach Johnny Fox said “She has made a giant step of late.
“Her focus on her training is second to none, and she has made amazing strides for someone her age”
“The big picture is the Olympics. We will see nearer the time if she will compete in Tokyo or not.
“Given her form, I have no doubt she will be capable of achieving the qualify-ing times for Tokyo 2020” he added.
