July 2018 Team of the Month – Tallaght AC Men’s 4x100m Relay Team
TIMMY Bada, Eoin Doherty, Simon Essuman and Joseph Ojewumi combined to win Tallaght Athletic Club’s first ever National Senior Sprint title when they stormed to gold in this season’s 4x100m Relay Championships in Santry.
Competing against the top relay teams in the country, the well-drilled Tallaght squad were quietly confident of reaching the podium when stepping onto the track.
Bada exited the blocks swiftly and made a smooth transfer to Doherty who ran a very strong second leg before passing the baton to Essuman.
He produced a superb performance over the third quarter before making the final exchange with Ojewumi who repelled all challengers to take the title ahead of Clonliffe Harriers and Emerald AC in a new club record time of 41.83, beating the old club record time of 42.28 that was set back in 2015.
The same four athletes competed at some point as a member of a Tallaght relay team that won National Under 20 titles between 2013 and 2017.
These athletes will now be heading back into training ahead of the new indoor season in which they will be hoping to secure more team and individual honours.
