Kevin’s/Kilian’s battle back to book place in championship final
ST KEVIN’S/Kilian’s senior ladies football team came storming back from five-points down in the second half to see off St Mary’s 6- 6 to 4-4 to book a place in the Junior J Championship decider.
Played in Kilnamanagh on Monday evening, the home side looked in trouble mid-way through the second half but they hit the turbo boost button to hammer home four goals.
The first half was evenly contested with the Saggart side leading 2-3 to 1-4 at half time with their second goal coming a minutes before the break.
Despite both side missing a few chances, Kevin’s/Kilian’s stayed in touch with defenders Katie Petit and Aoife Carroll along with Laura Fitzpatrick and Carol O’Donnell working hard.
Midfielder Laura Fitzpatrick broke through for two important goals in the second half as she ran at the Mary’s defence while Amy Connaughton at centre forward was lively throughout.
With the contest hanging in the balance, the hosts upped a gear and a couple of scores from Leanne McCartan, Naughton, Chloe Conroy and Katie Long saw them progress to the final stages.
Clodagh Clarke was on the scoresheet for Kevin’s/Kilian’s as was O’Donnell as the team now meet Cuala in Fingallians in the decider next Wednesday.
Having lost the final last year, the Tallaght side will be aiming to go one step further this year.
