Key players Clarke and Poom boost for Rovers

WITH Airtricity Teams preparing for the new season, defending champions Shamrock Rovers have been boosted with Trevor Clarke signing a permanent contract and Markus Poom re-signing for another year.

Rovers, who are going for five-in-a-row, will be delighted to have secured the services of these key players and will be eager to make their mark on the league once again this year.

Speaking following the re-signing of Trevor Clarke, Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley told the clubs website: “I think we all know what Trevor brings to us, so we’re absolutely delighted to get him back on a permanent deal.

“He’s a big, big player for us, he’s shown that time and time again.

“I think we’re getting Trevor in his peak years which is really important.

“I have seen real maturity in Trevor since he came home, both on and off the pitch; in how he approaches the game, how he approaches training, it’s completely different to how he was when he was younger.

“We’re delighted to get it done and he’s a really important part of what we do.”

“Like I said, we know Trevor’s pace, he must be one of the fastest players in the league.

“So we know when he plays he gives us a real outlet, he makes teams defend differently against us.

“As I also said, the most pleasing aspect for us as a staff is Trevor’s maturity in terms of his attitude to training, playing games and being an all-round better personal player.

“So, we’re getting Trevor now at a really good age.”

The signing of Clarke is on the back of announce an extension of the loan arrangement with Flora Tallinn for midfielder Markus Poom in 2024.

Stephen Bradley, said: “We all saw Markus’ quality and what he brought to the club last year.

We were very keen on bringing that back again this year.

I spoke with Markus before he went home from the break with the international team, and he was very keen to come back himself.

“It was just going to take a bit of time because he’s a Flora player and we had to speak to them, but it was pretty clear that we wanted Markus back, and he wanted to come back, so we’re absolutely delighted to get it done”.
