Killinarden’s Cooking Pot delivers traditional African food to your home
A NEW ethnic food company, ingrained with a ‘healthy ethos’, has opened shop in Tallaght, and is delivering it’s made-to-order tasty, fresh and nourishing food to local communities.
Based in the Killinarden Enterprise Park, the Cooking Pot is run by Ghana native Amba Sharkey, who is bringing ancient traditional African food to local communities – offering a tasty menu of dishes that are cooked fresh on site with natural and whole foods.
Opening in December, the Cooking Pot has already secured a fan base, with Amba successfully mixing healthy, additive-free, ingredients with taste.
“The whole idea of ancient traditional African food is that food is ‘healing’ and it will nourish, sustain and repair you while being very tasty,” Amba said.
“I think over the years, as we all become more modernised, that we have forgotten about the healing aspect of food, nourishment has been side-lined.”
Amba said that traditional African food, especially African survival food, is naturally gluten and dairy free with no preservatives or additives.
“I am a real foodie and I think that we need to go back to basics when it comes to what we eat,” Amba said.
“All of the dishes on the Cooking Pot’s menu are traditional recipes made from fresh and whole foods, and all made fresh-from-scratch by myself.
“Our dishes have amazing taste and flavour and we have some really great vegetarian dishes.
“Our food is also suitable for people with intolerances as there is no dairy and we don’t use wheat, rye or barley.
“We also use bicarbonate of soda in some of our dishes which naturally cleanses the body.”
She added: “We have had some amazing feedback and reviews to date and we have some customers who eat meat going crazy for our vegetarian and vegan dishes.”
Some of the dishes available for delivery include a number of rice dishes including jellof rice, which is rice and tomato, spinach and broad bean stew, peanut and lamb stew and chicken pepper soup.
Amba also makes a selection of biscuits and snacks that are being stocked in the new Country Fare café in the Enterprise Centre on Main Road, Tallaght.
The Cooking Pot is open from 5pm to 10pm, Thursday to Sunday, and delivers to Tallaght, Clondalkin, Terenure, Templeogue, Kimmage, Rathmines, Rathgar and Ranelagh.
The Cooking Pot also offers a catering service.
