Kilnamanagh drama group loses one of its precious players
The community of Kilnamanagh lost one of its dearest friends on Thursday, August 10 with the passing of Patsy Gahan RIP.
Patsy, along with his wife Ann and their young children moved into the new housing estate of Kilnamanagh in the early 1970s and immediately became involved in his new community.
Patsy was instrumental in establishing the Summer Project Talent Show which provided the children of Kilnamanagh with an opportunity to showcase their acting and musical talents for over twenty years.
Patsy was a founding member of the Kilnamanagh Drama Group which was set up in the early 1990s.
Patsy acted as stage manager for the Drama Group on many of their productions, but was also known to take to the stage, as he did in the group’s adaptation of John B. Keane’s Big Maggie, when Patsy played the role of the parish priest.
Patsy loved his involvement in the long-running Kilnamanagh Pantomime Group and was a vital member of the group which entertained the children of Tallaght every Christmas with laugh-a-minute productions which included Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and Treasure Island.
Patsy was an active member of the Kilnamanagh Community Centre for many years and helped run the renowned Kilnamanagh Teenage Disco, which provided a venue for the teenagers of Kilnamanagh and beyond to socialise in a safe and secure environment.
In addition Patsy was also an enthusiastic volunteer with the community centre’s Electra Stage School.
Patsy was always prepared to give generously of his time to build or paint the many sets required by Electra to stage their summer and Christmas shows.
Patsy loved and cared for the community of Kilnamanagh and indeed the wider community of Tallaght.
Patsy is survived by his son Gary, daughters Debbie, Alison and Lindsey and grandchildren Robert, Conor, Matthew, Catriona, Hannah and Tomás
Patsy, you will be sadly missed by all your friends but never forgotten.
