
King’s Hospital plans for all weather pitches and clubhouse
THE KING’S Hospital School on Old Lucan Road in Palmerstown has an application for a synthetic all-weather rugby pitch and all-weather rugby training area, all-weather pitch and two-storey clubhouse.
The Board of Governors at the school lodged planning with South Dublin County Council for a 10-year permission for development within the grounds of the King’s Hospital School.
The proposed development will alter a Protected Structure and is located within the curtilage of another Protected Structure.
The proposed development will also result in the removal of some protected trees and the planting of new soft landscaping, Tree Preservation Order.
The development will consist of amendments to existing sports pitches to create one synthetic all-weather rugby pitch (120m x 70m) with team dugouts, 1.2m high boundary fencing, and floodlighting (18 no1200 watt LED luminaires mounted six by 15 metre high columns.
Included in the plans is one synthetic all-weather rugby training area (70m x 38m) (Training Area 1) with floodlighting and one synthetic all-weather rugby training area with floodlights (60m x 20m (Training Area 2)) with floodlighting and one synthetic all-weather hockey pitch (91.5m x 55m) with fencing and ballstop netting enclosures with team dugouts and floodlighting.
The development will also consist of the construction of a new two-storey clubhouse on a raised podium with changing rooms, toilets, office and plant rooms, multi-use space (gym and function area) and first-floor external spectator terrace.
Plans include the removal of some existing protected trees and the planting of new soft landscaping and new one-way vehicle and cycle route with drop-off areas and lighting new illuminated and 109-space car-park with five additional bus-parking spaces.
