By William O'Connor

THE Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (ETB) is planning to hold an information meeting with local residents/parents to promote the proposed second-level school in Kingswood Heights.

Planning permission for the school was granted recently by South Dublin County Council and Cllr Charlie O’Connor has sought an update on the plans from Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan TD.

The Minister stated “the major building project for the second-level school is currently at an advanced stage of architectural planning – Stage 2b (Detailed Design) which includes the applications for planning permission, fire cert, disability access cert and the preparation of tender documents.

This project is included on the current 5-year construction programme announced in 2012. It is listed on the programme to proceed to tender and construction in 2015/2016”.

According to Cllr Charlie O’Connor, the Minister has also confirmed that it is the intention of the Department and Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education Training Board to open the school in temporary accommodation in September 2016 and the ETB has recently erected signs on the school site fence advising of this.

This proposal is attracting attention in the area and Cllr Charlie O’Connor confirmed that he has received a number of calls querying the plans in respect of the temporary accommodation.

He has brought this matter to the attention of the ETB and has asked that full consultation take place with the local community.

He also promised to give all matters relating to this proposal his full attention.
