Late night roadworks in Crumlin leave residents up all night

Late night road works in Crumlin near the old Submarine Bar left many residents with a sinking feeling last night.

A number of residents who contacted The Echo said the works started at approximately 7pm and went on until 4.15am in the early hours.

The works at the Kimmage Rd West /Cromwellsfort Road/ Whitehall Road West junction, were carried out by Roadstone on behalf of South Dublin County Council.

“I can understand works taking place at different times, but it is a residential area and we thought it would stop at 11pm or midnight,” said one resident.

“If anything, the noise picked up after then and it was impossible to get to sleep. Closing the windows made no difference.”

Another resident wondered why the works were not carried out at the weekend.

A SDCC spokesperson told The Echo: “The works consisted of resurfacing the very busy junction and these works could not take place in daytime or at the weekend due to the traffic volumes.

“All activities such as rock breaking, planning, jack hammering etc, cease by 11pm but the contractor is allowed to pave and roll the new surface after this time.

“The works will be completed tonight with the raising of manhole covers and will be supervised by SDCC.”
