Library development to begin in late August

CONSTRUCTION of the new library in North Clondalkin is due to commence in late August.
The work was initially due to begin at the end of 2017 prior to issuing on tenders for the project last summer.

Plans have been in the works for some time. With 10 schools in the area, the development of a new library for North Clondalkin was identified as a key priority in the South Dublin Libraries Development Plan 2012-2016.
The South Dublin County Council public library will be located on a site at the junction of Liscarne, Oatfield and Harelawn, opposite the church.
Proposed works will include the construction of a two-storey 1,299 sq m library building.
The library will offer multi-functional services and on completion will have landscaping all around the building with extensive lighting.
The completed library will be oval-shaped, veering away from the houses nearby, and will open out into three separate gardens, encompassed by railings, with one main entrance.
During the building period of approximately 15 months, a hoarding to protect the site will be in place, along with on-site security.
During construction a temporary wheelchair-accessible footpath will give access for local residents.
Staff from the Mobile Library service of South Dublin and the village library in Clondalkin are working with local schools, crèches and community groups in preparation for the new library.
It is envisaged that the library will open for 54.5 hours per week over six days, with four late openings and will open all day Friday and Saturday.
